Green Initiatives and Sustainable Construction

Steele Properties has adopted ecofriendly construction practices and incorporates sustainable development throughout our portfolio. It’s not only good for the environment but it also creates lasting value and savings for our residents. As we conduct our business, we implement practices that reduce waste and conserve energy both which contribute to a healthier, cleaner environment.

Partnerships:

Steele is proud to work with local certified green building engineers, where we can, to ensure we maximize energy efficiency and employ sustainable practices throughout and after our construction projects.

Energy Conservation:

Improving energy efficiency through lighting, mechanical upgrades, proper sealing, using insulated doors and windows as well as insulating foundations and ducts, all contribute to improving energy efficiency at our properties. We also try to use renewable energy sources like solar/thermal panels and photovoltaic systems, whenever possible. This improves our residents’ comfort and quality of life, as well as reduces their utility bills.

Energy Efficient:

Energy Star is a joint program of the US Environmental Protection Agency and US Department of Energy helping Americans save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. Steele incorporates energy efficient or Energy Star appliances and fixtures in all our projects that are being rehabilitated. This translates into utility costs savings and a healthier home for our residents.

Water Conservation:

We ensure our construction practices help preserve this vital resource by installing low flow fixtures and toilets in apartments and property community rooms, as well as other amenities. This assists in reducing water usage which is especially important in drought locations, i.e., our California properties.

Sustainable Materials:

By partnering with vendors who offer sustainable and environmentally-friendly products, we select durable, high quality materials for flooring, cabinets and finishes. Using zero-VOC paint allows us to improve air quality and provide a better environment for our residents and employees.

Recycling:

We work with local waste disposal and recycling companies, as well as non-profit organizations to recycle materials being disposed of during construction and implement re-cycling programs after construction is completed. We feel it’s important to dispose waste in an environmentally-friendly manner, as well as bring in recycling containers for our residents to use.
